On July 28th, Brooke Sause released her newest single "Consequences." Written with her sister and collaborator Breana, Sause describes the song as being "about using your brain less and your heart more. It’s for those moments when you consciously decide to do something chaotic, knowing it could end badly, but just having a good time anyway." In our newest Q&A, Sause answers our questions about the song and her writing process.

If you could have “Consequences” used in any piece of media, what would it be and why?
I recently saw the Barbiemovie and I would have loved for “Consequences” to be in that movie. I think Barbie herself would really relate to the song. But other than that, I could definitely see “Consequences” in a romantic, feel-good show like The Summer I Turned Pretty.
Your debut EP is coming out later this year. What can we expect from it?
Listeners should expect a rollercoaster of emotions. The EP channels a lot of different feelings, like happiness, romance, heartbreak, and anger. I can’t wait for the world to hear it!
How did you and your sister start writing songs together? How has the process changed over the years?
My sister Breana and I have always been passionate about music. When COVID hit, we were living together and just figured, why not give recording a shot? Once we laid down our first track, we were absolutely hooked. The Whole process was magical from start to finish. We fell in love with every step, from tossing around crazy ideas to going to the studio to lay it all down. The process has changed a bit, in the sense that it’s a lot harder to balance with everything else going on in our lives now.
Do you have a favorite song you’ve written? If you do, why is it your favorite?
I think my favorite song that I’ve ever written is something that is yet to be released, so you’ll have to stick around and wait to hear it!
Who, or what, has most influenced your music and artistic style?
I would say some of my biggest inspirations are Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Ed Sheeran, and some older bands like Fleetwood Mac as well. I love lyric-driven artists who tell stories with their music. I also love a great combination of organic instruments and synthetic instruments.
What are you listening to currently?
I'm currently listening a lot to Speak Now(Taylor’s Version) album and Miley Cyrus’ Endless Summer Vacation! I’m also really looking forward to Olivia Rodrigo’s new album — I love her new single “Vampire”!
